Sunday Stash

First things first, if you were interested when I said I was thinking about starting a UK/Ireland Travelling Stash, keep an eye on the blog over the next week or so as I will definitely be annoucing some news about it!

Now onto regular scheduled viewing.



I bought this bundle from my local fabric store - Mandors (Glasgow) . With that gorgeous umbrella print in front and it arranged in a star design as opposed to the standard rectangular style I was totally sucked in and had to buy it.

I had no clue when I bought it what I would use it for and I still don't. Inspiration will hit me at some point with this, I have no doubt.

Sunday Stash

As sewers, we have an inbuilt obsession with fabric. That was probably evident from last weeks post and the amount of fabric I actually own. It is quite ridiculous actually. I was musing with OH last night about it and said "Remember when I just had a little unit in the living room and that was all the fabric I had?". I'm not quite sure how I got from that to THIS. I guess buying fabric quicker than I can sew with it would be the answer I'm looking for.

Back then, my fabric stash consisted mainly of remnants from Dunelm Mill (through in a mix bag of dress fabrics that I had bought from a selling community on Livejournal). I wasn't really aware of designer fabric back then until this fabric came to my attention:



Alexander Henry Tattoo.

I adore this fabric even to this day. After discovering it I toyed with the idea of buying some but I just couldn't justify the expense. After about a year of deliberating on it I finally bit the bullet and bought some. *Ahem* 6 yards in fact. My intention was to make a dress with it which I still haven't done. But one day I will get round to it. I can just visualise me prancing around in my gorgeous Tattoo fabric and how happy I will be when I finally do it. I even have the pattern for the dress and everything.

One day.

I didn't get any sewing done today as I am going out for dinner for a work colleague's birthday tonight so I spent the day baking and decorating her a cake. I can't wait to eat this!

WIP Friday?

Hmmmm, not quite the same!

Apologies for my tardiness on this post. I ended up having to go to hospital on Wednesday after work as I have been having bad palpitations for the past 6 months and I am on strict instruction now to go to hospital to see if they can catch one in order to tell whats causing it. However, on Wednesday we were out of luck. Nevermind.

I had a day off work today and after throwing myself about to a sweat session of Just Dance this morning (whereby I must add that of the songs they gave me I did best at A-Ha, Take on Me and SugarHill Gang, Apache - I'm clearly an "oldie") I got down to some sewing.

I turned it into this:





This is going to be turned into a baby quilt for a friend. I had actually pledged to simply finish the top for this but I am going to get it basted, quilted and bound, preferably as soon as possible because baby has already arrived!

Sunday Stash

Another first for the blog, welcome to Sunday Stash. Normally what I shall do for Sunday stash is to pick out a piece of fabric from my stash that I love and post about it. Why I love it, where I got it, how long I have stashed it for and possibly what I intend to do with it (if I even know :-) ).

So I thought I'd make the first Sunday Stash a really really big one and its also 2 posts for the price of one.

I'd like to introduce you to my sewing room. I wanted to give it a little revamp before I let you guys see it so I took some pictures of what it was like before:







And this is what it is like now that I've finally finally finished it ( 9 months after setting it up!). The boxes at the end of the unit hold my wool stash. You can also see Lil Rotten here too.



This is my main unit with all my fabric. It was originally an Ikea Magiker unit but I turned it on its side and made use of all the little compartments for fabric.



The box at the end is a wine box that my mum had and holds my FQ's. The cute tins next to it came from the Boots sale and are actually lunch boxes. One holds my scraps and the other holds all my bits of Liberty.



I've included this picture to show off the thimbles. My mum, as I will have already mentioned, was a keen craftswoman from whom I learned and this collection belonged to her. Whenever any of us travelled we brought her back a local thimble.



This is the boring side. It has all my stock and display things for craft fairs and a roll of bump batting. Ignore the incredibly cute attention seeking moggy. What is more interesting is that bag on the floor there. That my friends is what I have picked out for the travelling stash. Now just to find a box to put it all in.



Last, but CERTAINLY not least, my sewing table and cutting table. The wooden crate box underneath the table holds my WIP's and the tins are buttons and thread (again inherited from my Mum).




I really like my sewing area but I also like looking at other peoples sewing area's. I'd love for others to post about theirs so I can have a nosy.

W.I.P Wednesday

Welcome to the inaugural W.I.P Wednesday here at Domestic Kat. What better way to start it than with announcing that I will be taking part in Quilting in the Gap's Finish-a-long .

I have way more WIP's than I thought. I genuinely thought I had about 3 but having tidied out my sewing room yesterday it seems I have more. Here they all are:

An Ikea quilt top.



Like above except with red and navy blue borders.



An ironing board cover just like mine (I cut two because I had enough fabric for two).



A pile of jewellery rolls that I cut out at the start of November to stock up for my craft fairs. There are probably 8 here.



A very VERY simple lap blanket that I cut out probably 2-3 years ago. Its really about time I get it sewn up.



A 9 patch quilt for me.



Skirts to be made up into bags.



Another skirt bag. This one I keep meaning to pull out and do but then one of my cat's slept on it (hence the cat fur) and I considered throwing it out but that would be a waste.




I wouldn't be able to get all of these done in the next quarter but at least if I can make a dent in it I will be happy.

Therefore I hereby pledge to Finish-a-long in this quarter:

1. The skirt-bags. All 4 of them.
2. The jewellery rolls. Need to do them for my fairs anyway.
3. The ironing board cover.
4. Finish the top for the blue and red Ikea quilt.
5. Baste, quilt and bind the first Ikea quilt.

There. Thats enough to keep me busy for another little while. If anyone else wants to have a go you can still sign up by Sunday. Go ahead!
